When treating a patient, the physician must reach an individual decision for each specific case at hand. Often none and occasionally more than one guideline applies – with recommendations that sometimes contradict one another. It can make it easier to find an individualized medication if the physicians know when, where and why the selected drug will work. This book tries to put the information about medicines into equations so as to make the general knowledge more understandable and thus better applicable to the individual patient in question. Such individualized decisions will expand the body of practical experience. We hope that this approach will inspire further interest in clinical science and basic research.
