Abstrakt

COPD patients do not only suffer from an impaired pulmonary function; this disease also involves further physical, mental and social effects that cannot be treated by drug therapy of the bronchial obstruction alone. This is where the concept of pulmonary rehabilitation comes into play. It is recommended in all national and international guidelines for patients with at least a moderate stage of severity and its effectiveness has been proven in numerous randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses. It requires a “multiprofessional rehabilitation team” including a coordinating physician, physiotherapists, sport therapists, psychologists, nursing staff, social workers, occupational therapists and nutritionists.
