Abstrakt

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is the most common type of allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis. It is caused by an immunological reaction to the ubiquitary mould fungus Aspergillus fumigatus. This is a combination of a type-I and type-III reaction as described by Coombs and Gell, constituting a serious and, with advancing age, common complication in patients with cystic fibrosis. The disease is frequently identified and treated late. The diagnosis of ABPA in an early stage – at a time when no persistent changes have occurred in the bronchial wall and the lung parenchyma is not destroyed – is of crucial importance with regard to the prognosis of the disease. ABPA is a complex disease with specific clinical symptoms, radiological features, and serological markers. Current aspects of diagnosis and therapy are addressed in this report.
