Abstrakt

The life expectancy of patients with cystic fibrosis has markedly increased in the last 20 years. Thus, accompanying diseases that constitute a challenge in terms of nutrition therapy have become relevant in diagnosis. In addition to the treatment of the basic disease in the lung and exocrine pancreas insufficiency, the condition is accompanied by energy imbalance and nutrient deficiencies due to pathological changes while the patient grows into adulthood. Intensive individual nutritional therapy with the aim of improving the patient’s nutritional condition is one of the basic principles of the treatment of CF. Communicating the necessity of a highcaloric, high-fat, yet balanced diet is merely a part of the patient’s counseling and training. Age-appropriate thriving, the avoidance of underweight and nutrient deficiencies are the prime goals. Well informed and continually trained parents and patients adhere more carefully to the requirements of therapy. Comorbidities such as gastro-esophageal reflux, diabetes mellitus, liver disease, and distal intestinal obstruction syndrome are additional subjects addressed in counseling.
