Abstrakt

Computed tomography (CT) of the chest using contrast enhanced helical CT is especially suited to detect tracheobronchial tree abnormalities and anomalies of intra-thoracic vessels and is therefore the most definitive procedure. In addition, CT is very specific for correct diagnoses of inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the chest and of great advantage compared to other modalities. The high-resolution CT (HRCT) is still needed for the evaluation and the final diagnosis of interstitial lung disease. Because of the considerable radiation exposure due to CT, this paper lists specific recommendations for the scan technique, optimized for pediatric patients. Furthermore, innovations of the image reconstruction and experiences of the viewing of CT exams are given. The most frequent diseases from infancy to adolescence with its characteristic findings are presented.
