Abstrakt
Nasal CPAP is the treatment of choice of obstructive sleep apnea. Normalisation of body weight should always be encouraged in overweight patients. Positional training is an option in case of positional apnea. Oral devices can be tried in mild to moderate cases of OSA and if CPAP is not accepted. Mandibular maxillary osteotomy and advancement is an effective surgical option for some patients, whereas the results of other surgical procedures including UPPP are disappointing. Central sleep apnea is a very heterogeneous disease, where pharmacological treatment including oxygen therapy may be effective apart from ventilation strategies. Long term support of sleep apnea patients is mandatory.
