Abstrakt

The market for novel nicotine-containing products and nicotine analogues is currently growing rapidly and includes vapes, heated tobacco products, nicotine pouches, lozenges, chewing gums, candies, and nicotine sticks. These products are often advertised as harmless, “tobacco-free,” or “nicotine-free.” They come in sweet and fruity flavors, stylish packaging, are relatively inexpensive, and are available almost everywhere. At the same time, they are heavily marketed through social media, specifically targeting children, adolescents, and young adults. Nicotine and its analogues strongly affect the central nervous system, quickly promote the development of dependence, and impair the neurocognitive development of the adolescent brain. The combination of sensory appeal, social acceptability, and easy availability makes these products effective gateway and lifestyle drugs, posing a substantial risk of early and long-term nicotine addiction [32].
