Abstrakt

Endoscopic ablation therapy for Barrett’s esophagus effectively reduces the risk of progression to high-grade dysplasia and adenocarcinoma, but should be used in a risk-adapted manner. While ablation is not indicated for non-dysplastic Barrett’s esophagus, dysplasia – confirmed by reference pathology – should always be resected if lesions are visible, or otherwise ablated. Radiofrequency ablation is the most well-studied procedure for this purpose, while hybrid APC and cryoablation are promising alternatives. Treatment decisions should be made on an individual basis, taking patient factors into account.
