Abstrakt
Allergic diseases are among the most common chronic conditions in childhood and adolescence and have maintained a consistently high prevalence for years. At the same time, environmental and climatic conditions are undergoing profound changes. These include prolonged vegetation and pollen seasons, increased pollen loads, the emergence of new allergen sources due to invasive plant species, the spread of vector-borne infectious diseases driven by changes in insect populations, and persistently high levels of outdoor and indoor air pollutants. These factors influence the development, progression, and management of allergic diseases and have direct and indirect effects on the physical and mental health of children and adolescents.
This article provides an overview of current developments, explains relevant climatic and environmental health mechanisms, and highlights specific vulnerabilities during childhood. Based on these considerations, implications for clinical care, preventive strategies, and health policy are derived. Finally, existing research gaps are identified and concrete recommendations for clinical practice, public health, and future research are proposed.
