Abstrakt

Supporting patients and their relatives in acute end-of-life situations or during resuscitation is an integral part of the emergency medical services team’s tasks. Current guidelines explicitly call for shared decision-making that takes into account the values, goals and preferences of the patient. In addition to ongoing training in advanced resuscitation measures, emergency doctors and paramedics must also be trained in communication and conversation skills in order to meet the complex requirements of patients and their relatives. In addition, it is necessary to inform patients and their families about the importance of advance directives for emergencies and the appointment of a trusted person to support decision-making processes in end-of-life situations.
