Abstrakt

Preclinical emergency medicine is characterized by time constraints and limited patient information. Nevertheless, depending on the scenario, ethically sound decisions must be made regarding treatment limitations, the necessity of transport and defining treatment goals. These decisions are based on the ethical ‘two-pillar model’ of medical indication and informed patient consent. The patient’s will must be determined using a structured sequence (expressed, advance or presumed). A structured assessment of decision-making capacity is required, particularly refusal regarding treatment. The overarching goal is to enhance the ethical awareness and competence of emergency personnel, thereby securing clinical confidence and respect for patient autonomy in challenging situations.
