Abstrakt

Nutrition is a relevant issue for cancer patients: for many patients the consequences from malnutrition is relevant and not the direct side effect from their oncological disease. Nutritional therapy provided by dietitians can effectively treat malnutrition and thus reduce mortality, increase therapy tolerance and quality of life, decrease postoperative complications and is also cost-effective. Early detection of a risk of malnutrition and initiation of nutritional therapy is crucial. In cancer patients, this is process-guided in different settings and is individually adapted to the medical treatment and the symptoms. This requires interdisciplinary collaboration with defined interfaces, clear responsibilities and good transition management.
