Abstrakt

Wearable consumer health trackers (WCHTs) are widely used and collect everyday sleep and health data. This overview outlines the potential use of WCHTs in sleep medicine, describes key sensors and discusses opportunities and limitations. Based on the recently published recommendations of the World Sleep Society, practical applications for insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and circadian rhythm sleep disorders (CRSWD) are presented. WCTHs can supplement medical history, physical examination and sleep diaries, but do not replace polysomnography (PSG) or polygraphy (PG) for diagnoses and therapy decisions.
