Abstrakt

Introduction: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is still associated with a high mortality rate. Resuscitation registers are an essential element of quality assurance and evaluation regarding the care of out-of-hospital resuscitated patients. As a result, the importance of resuscitation has been emphasized by national and international organizations. For this reason, a resuscitation register was set up in the Freiburg area in 2001 and has been expanded and optimized over the last two decades.
Materials and methods: Since 2001, all pre-hospital cardiac arrests in the Freiburg area have been recorded in a local resuscitation register. In 2016, the register was expanded into a regional, cross-location register enabling local and regional analyses. The parameters recorded correspond to international standards and also cover region-specific projects in order to provide a comprehensive picture of the entire regional rescue chain. All analyses are descriptive.
Results: In line with regional demographic changes, an increase in the number of out-of-hospital resuscitations was observed in the city of Freiburg. While an average of 124 resuscitations per year occurred in the city of Freiburg between 2001 and 2005, this number increased to an average of 138 resuscitations per year in the period from 2016 to 2020. There was also an increase in the number of patients transported with ongoing resuscitation, but this was not associated with an increase in survival or discharge rates.
Discussion and conclusion: The recording and analysis of out-of-hospital resuscitated patients is a fundamental element of basic emergency medical care in the Freiburg region. Process optimization and evaluation of the diagnostic and therapeutic measures applied require a corresponding data base that must be continuously maintained and reviewed. Networking and merging of regional registries offers the possibility to evaluate regional projects and at the same time to perform supraregional benchmarking.
