Abstrakt

Sociological aspects of the therapy of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are examined, in particular the influence of PAP therapy and hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) on social sleep habits. It is shown that, in contrast to HNS, PAP application is perceived as a disruption of social sleep on a practical everyday level. The importance of social aspects within somnology is discussed, whereby not only the biophysical but also the social aspects can influence therapy adherence. Accordingly, the social dynamics and technological aspects in the context of the treatment of OSA are examined. The integration of these therapies into everyday life and the resulting changes in sleeping habits and relationship structures are analyzed. The study provides insights into the social challenges and adaptation processes in OSA and contributes to the development of a broader socio-technical perspective.
