Abstrakt

Histamine-mediated angioedema represents the most common form of angioedema and is typically associated with urticaria, with either an acute or chronic course. Initial diagnostic procedures include standard laboratory tests, such as differential blood count, C-reactive protein, total IgE, and anti-TPO antibodies. In cases where an infectious or autoimmune etiology is suspected, extended diagnostic workup is indicated. For the investigation of a Helicobacter pylori infection, stool tests or the C-urea breath test are preferable to serological methods. To avoid false-negative results, proton pump inhibitors should be paused in advance. The diagnosis of hereditary angioedema (HAE) requires a thorough medical history, clinical examination, and targeted laboratory tests. C4 complement levels and C1 inhibitor (C1-INH) are the primary diagnostic markers. Genetic testing may needed to confirm the diagnosis, particularly in unclear cases or in patients with a positive family history. A timely and precise diagnosis is crucial to initiate appropriate therapy and prevent potentially life-threatening complications.
