Abstrakt

Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infectious disease usually transmitted by infectious aerosols. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that ~ 7.5 million people worldwide were newly infected with TB in 2022 [1]. Migratory movements subsequently also lead to a changed epidemiological situation in Germany. This is accompanied by an increase in resistant forms of TB. Imaging and microbiological examinations are essential for rapid diagnosis and therapy initiation. By using genotypic methods, it is now possible to predict drug resistance at an early stage. In drug-susceptible pulmonary TB, therapy usually lasts 6 months. Different manifestations of TB and pre-existing conditions of patients may lead to a change in the therapy’s composition and duration. Standard therapy has a cure rate of > 80%. In the case of resistant forms of TB, it is advisable to contact a specialized TB treatment center at an early stage.
