Abstrakt

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is an essential modality for assessing perfusion patterns of different tissues, including those related to pulmonary lesions. CEUS is helpful in the differentiation of vital or avital tissue, as well as in tumor characterization. In pleural lesions, CEUS may provide information that distinguishes infectious pleurisy from peripheral pulmonary infarcts. Moreover, in the evaluation of an unexplained pleural effusion, CEUS can provide additional guiding information. In peripheral lung consolidations, CEUS is useful in evaluating malignancy, in the differential diagnosis of unexplained pathologies, and in recognizing atypical courses of disease and complications. Furthermore, CEUS helps to determine the indication for biopsy, enables the safe biopsy of vital tissue, and can reliably detect biopsy-related complications.
