Abstrakt

In the treatment of infants with asthma, a number of special aspects have to be taken into account. The diagnosis of asthma can often only be made on a preliminary base and must be continuously reviewed over the course of the disease. Individual triggers have to be avoided, comorbidities as well as familial and psychosocial factors are included in the treatment planning. Only a very limited range of suitable drugs is available, the majority of which are inhaled via a holding chamber. In this review, the therapeutic options are discussed from the perspective of a pediatric pneumologist’s practice, based mainly on the German National Asthma Care Guideline.
