Abstrakt

Bronchial asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions in children and adolescents and prevalence is still rising. It is an umbrella term for different pheno- and endotypes and because of its heterogeneous character and the numerous differential diagnoses it remains to be a challenging one for the attending physician. After the diagnosis a guideline-based therapy is thought to facilitate a life without major restrictions. But it is important to respect the basics and to individually adapt the therapy both to causes and to personal preferences. In the case of an unsuccessful therapy the treating physician must move on to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic options to achieve freedom from symptoms. Especially the therapy of coexisting allergies plays an important role, since it is the only causal and therefore is the only curative therapy option.
