Abstrakt

Comprehensive palliative care offers patients with non-malignant pneumological diseases, such as COPD or pulmonary fibrosis, a significant improvement of their quality of life and a stronger relief from disease-specific symptoms and burdens. Palliative therapy approaches should come along with curative or rehabilitative therapies. General palliative care should be offered by physicians and clinicians as primary providers. If the symptom load is complex, additional support from specialized palliative care providers should be organized. The severity and symptom complexity of a chronic, progressive disease is crucial for the indication of palliative care. This also applies when the prognosis is unclear.
