Abstrakt

Even if the underlying disease is optimally manageed, breathlessness is the most common symptom in patients with malignant and non-malignant respiratory diseases. The perception and therapy of breathlessness are in the responsibility of the practitioners in the in- and outpatient setting. There are various pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures in the management of breathlessness. The most effective and safe drugs are opioids. Patients with non-invasive and invasive ventilation therapies also often suffer from breathlessness. When managing a patient with breathlessness, regular assessment of breathlessness is paramount.
