Abstrakt

Success and effectiveness of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) have been established with a high level of evidence in many pulmonary diseases. Nevertheless, the significance and frequency of prescription in medicine are still far from being in the desired range. This is due to different reasons, which are also dealt with in this article. The timing of starting a PR program in COPD exacerbation is much debated, and some arguments have already been found for starting a PR even while the patient is still in the acute phase. Another challenge is the increase in physical activity that is not necessarily followed by PR. Maintenance programs to sustain post-rehabilitation physical activity are under review and will be highlighted. This article will give an up-to-date overview of the possible treatment options in this field.
