Abstrakt

In children there is a good correlation between dampness of housing and development of asthma. This connection is much weaker in adults but strong in occupational air contamination with moulds. Unfortunately, technical assays of mould growth show no convincing correlation with asthma. As a clinician it is quite sufficient to recognize the growth of moulds and the mouldy odor. The correct diagnosis of the allergen is hampered by the very few test solutions with are also predominantly external air allergens. The same restriction hinders a hyposensitization. Thus, the most effective therapeutic option is the renovation of the housing. Some patients must change their working place.
