Abstrakt

The new S2k-guideline of the German Respiratory Society and the German Airway League for the management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) was written by German and Austrian experts on the basis of actual published studies, meta-analyses as well as actual guidelines, especially the 2017 version of the document of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). Main changes with respect to former German guidelines are the analysis of airflow limitation on the basis of the prediction equations of the Global Lung Initiative (GLI), staging and treating COPD pharmacologically according to symptoms and exacerbation risk. The use of this guideline may help to improve the management of COPD patients by using an individualized treatment concept including the treatment of comorbidities.
