Abstrakt

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is an on physical, mechanism of action based medical therapy. There are strongly recommended, recommended, optional recommended and investigational indications. This article is about strongly recommended indications. As there are decompression sickness (DCS 1 or 2), dysfunction of oxygen transport at carbon monoxide intoxication, gas gangrene, gas embolism. In Germany only 6 decompression chambers left, with 24 hour on call. They are able to treat intensive care patients, even if they are intubated and ventilated. Due to these indications, the biggest problem in Germany is a lack of actual data and high-quality studies. For Carbon Monoxide Intoxications the original data are from 1923! The newest studies and observations suggest, that these old data doesn’t comprehend to actual scientific standards. There is a need of further studies. The cases with decompression sickness have a huge amount of not registered accidents due to the fact, they aren’t insured or members of diving associations. This article is about this 4 strongly recommended indications, pathophysiology and number of cases. Following this work there is an urgent need, to inform, and further educate our physicians.
