Abstrakt

Ingestion of foreign bodies and food bolus impaction are common emergency situations in adults and children. Ingestion of foreign bodies mainly occurs accidentally whereas bolus impaction is often due to esophageal pathologies. In 80% of cases, foreign bodies are spontaneously excreted, in 20% endoscopic removal is required. Concerning endoscopic intervention, choice of optimal timepoint and removal technique of the foreign body may be challenging. Clinical management is mainly determined by symptoms and nature of the foreign body. The current paper will give an overview about conservative and endoscopic management of foreign body ingestion and food bolus impaction.
