Abstrakt

The NMES is an effective, useful and economic application on patients with COPD. It offers an alternative treatment for patients with exercise intolerance and strong dyspnea. The treatment spectrum reaches from the intensive care unit to home treatment. Patients improve both at and after exacerbations and in stable conditions with respect to strength, difficulty in breathing and exercise capacity. Battery-operated hand apparatuses offer a simple and economical everyday use for therapists and patients. Technically more demanding methods – for example whole body electromyostimulation – are used increasingly in the physical therapy treatment.
