Abstract

Medical rehabilitation programmes for patients with cystic fibrosis in a structured and targeted manner can lead to improvement across all age groups and of all aspects of the disease. Apart from imparting knowledge, therapeutic areas (especially physiotherapy, nutrition therapy and physical exercise) and psychological support, the empowerment of patients and their families plays in this context an important role. It is based on the provisions of the respective medical societies, the working group for rehabilitation of the Cystic Fibrosis Association and the structural and process quality specified by the German pension insurance. In addition to the hygienic precautions with regard to the segregation of patients with and without Pseudomonas, the necessary experience and training for the different areas of cystic fibrosis care is specified. It is important to closely cooperate with the attending outpatient clinics, and a good documentation of the outcome parameters is essential.
