Abstract

Allergic obstructive lung diseases are included in the list of occupational diseases of the German Ordinance on Occupational Diseases under the number BK 4301 and represent an important part of the total of occupational diseases. Bakery workers are at high risk of developing allergic rhinitis and asthma due to their intensive exposition against a wide spectrum of allergens. To date several relevant allergens have been identified and characterized on the molecular level. However, sensitive diagnostic tests for baker’s asthma are still lacking. Therefore sound clinical and occupational history taking and lung function testing are of capital importance.
