Instructions for authors
The International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics appears monthly and publishes manuscripts containing original material with emphasis on the following topics: Clinical trials, Pharmacoepidemiology – Pharmacovigilance, Pharmacodynamics, Drug disposition and Pharmacokinetics, Quality assurance, Pharmacogenetics, Biotechnological drugs such as cytokines and recombinant antibiotics. Bioavailability and bioequivalence manuscripts are published in the bioavailability section. Case reports on adverse reactions are also of interest. The Journal welcomes papers dealing with cost-benefit aspects of drugs. Letters to the editor can be submitted provided they do not exceed 600 words of text and do not include more than 1 table or 1 figure. Journal policy regarding registration of clinical trials: This journal recommends that the clinical trials of manuscripts submitted for publication be registered. With effect from June 2009 non-registered trials will no longer be accepted with the exception of long-term trials begun before 2002. We define a clinical trial as any research project that prospectively assigns human subjects to intervention or comparison groups to study cause and effect relationships of interventions. Trials must register at or before the onset of patient enrollment. Registries that currently meet required standards (e.g. of accessibility, information validation, comprehensive documentation) include: US National Library of Medicine, www.clinicaltrials.gov – The International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number Registry, www.controlled-trials.com – European Clinical Trials Database, www.eudract.emea.europa.eu – The National (UK) Research Register, www.update-software.com/national.

A manuscript processing fee of US$ 70.00/ € 70.00 will be charged for each manuscript. A page fee of US$ 70.00 / € 70.00 for each page will only be charged in excess of 8 printed pages (one printed page includes approximately 4,000 characters with blanks, plus figures). In the case of articles for the Bioavailability Section, page fees will be charged but these can be offset in full when an order for reprints is made (further information from the publisher: info@dustri.de). Payments should be made by check paid to Dustri-Verlag Dr. Karl Feistle or by Visa- or Mastercard by stating credit card number, credit card holder and expiry date in the covering letter. When submitting a manuscript, include a statement that all authors agree to the publication with their signatures.
2. Declaration: The covering letter must contain the statement: “The results presented in this paper have not been published previously in whole or part, except in abstract form”. All authors are required to give signed consent for publication on a separate sheet together with the covering letter. Possible conflicts of interest following publication must be disclosed.
3. Copyright: On acceptance of a manuscript/paper for publication, the copyright is automatically transferred to the publisher. Published manuscripts or parts of them may not be translated into other languages, reproduced in any form or recorded on files or in computer systems without written permission of the publisher.
1. Only manuscripts written in clear, concise English will be accepted.
2. The sections of the manuscript should be arranged according to the following sequence: abstract, key words, introduction, methods, materials, patients (or subjects) or case histories, results, discussion, and conclusion, each section being clearly marked. A running title should be suggested. The manuscripts should be typed double-spaced on one side of the page only on consecutively numbered pages. Illustrations should be in black and white. Legends, tables, references, abstract (20 – 30 lines) and running title are to be submitted on separate pages. The abstract should precisely outline objective, materials, methods, results and conclusions and be structured accordingly. It should be comprehensible to readers before they read the paper. For the purpose of documentation, indicate 3 to 5 relevant key words that may or may not appear in the title. They should be given below the abstract and each separated by a dash (–).
3. The title should be as concise as possible and begin with a main concept in order to facilitate electronic search. The title page should include the institutions and the full postal addresses of all authors. Each author should be correctly linked to the appropriate address by means of superscripts. The author to whom correspondence should be addressed should also be stated on the title page. Fax, telephone number and Email address must be included.
4. Acknowledgments: All support, financial or otherwise, for any work described should be acknowledged, with the exception of support from employing institutions identifiable from the title page.
Authors will be sent page proofs to be checked immediately for typographical errors and returned to the publisher as requested. Costs ensuing from corrections made by the author when these are far in excess of mistakes made by the printer, must be carried by the author.
For style and presentation, authors should consult a recent copy of the journal. All units cited in text and illustration must correspond to the international system of units (SI units). Webster’s Third New International Dictionary is the standard for spelling and compounding. See also Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, www.icmje.org.
Submit figures in a computer file (preferred formate: *.tif, resolution 300 dpi). Color photographs can be printed at the author’s expense; price estimate upon request. All photographs and diagrams should be referred to as figures and should be numbered consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals. The legends for illustrations should be typed on a separate sheet. Tables should be numbered consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals and each typed on a separate sheet. The tables must be in a text format (Microsoft Word/Excel or similar). Electronic submission of illustrations is preferred. Please use only Arial font in all figures. For the labeling of graph axes use Arial 10 pt. bold.
References should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals in brackets [..]. The first text reference will be [1]. If a reference is repeated, it keeps the same number. The numbered references list at the end of the manuscript should correspond to the text references.
Limit references to those essential. Papers quoted must be listed in the bibliography. Arrange bibliography alphabetically, abbreviations according to Index Medicus. Examples:
